The protagonist of the film by Uruguayan first time director Lucia Garibaldi is teenage Rosina. At first it’s hard to say anything about her other than she’s extremely timid and cautious. This applies both to the way she acts, obediently following her father’s directions in the seasonal work she’s doing, and to the thoughts and emotions she keeps carefully hidden. The sleepy coastal town where the action takes place seems to encourage such conservative behaviour. Then something happens—an event that will shake up both the local community and Rosina herself: she thinks she sees the familiar silhouette of a shark fin in the water. When more evidence of the predator appears, the town starts to panic: it could seriously affect tourist season. A feeling of anxiety also becomes familiar to Rosina, who’s becoming increasingly enamoured with an older colleague named Joselo. Lucía Garibaldi builds her intimate, metaphorical initiation story on a series of unanswered questions and doubts, focused primarily on the motivations for Rosina's behaviour. With simple means and a minimalist style, Garibaldi paints a convincing portrait of the hardships and anxieties of adolescence.
