Tonia is a Cypriot filmmaker who loves making films that deal with social and women’s issues. She is a member of the European Film Academy and the European Women's Audiovisual Network, Berlinale Talents alumna and one of the artistic directors of Cyprus Film Days International Festival, having also served as vice president of the Board of the Directors Guild of Cyprus. She has directed two awarded short films which have screened all over the world, DEAD END and LULLABY OF THE BUTTERFLY, and which were officially selected in more than 60 International Film Festivals together, including Locarno, Palm Springs, Cork and Sarajevo. Tonia’s debut feature film PAUSE was officially selected in more than 25 International Film Festivals including the ‘A’ list and FIAPF accredited Karlovy Vary, Cairo, Sofia, Transilvania and Stockholm. PAUSE also received multiple awards including the FIPRESCI Prize at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. Tonia’s projects have participated in Karlovy Vary Works-in-Progress, Sources2, Midpoint TV Launch, Connecting Cottbus and Mannheim Meeting Place markets and workshops and have been distributed in Japan, China, USA, Belgium, Russia, France, Greece and Cyprus. PAUSE is opening in theatres in the USA, Greece and Cyprus in 2019. She is currently working on the script of her next feature, awarded by the Scriptwriters Guild of Greece.
