Lucía Garibaldi wrote and directed “The Sharks”, her first feature film, which began production in March 2018. In September of the same year, it won the Industry Award and the Film Factory Award at San Sebastian Film Festival’s Cine en Construcción. The film had its world premiere in January 2019 as part of Sundance’s World Cinema Dramatic official competition, where Garibaldi won Best Director. At the Guadalajara Film Festival (FICG, 2019), the film took home Best Screenplay, Best Actress in a Leading Role and Special Jury Prize; at Toulouse Latin Film Festival the film got the Grand Prix Coup de Coeur.
In 2018, Garibaldi began writing “The Last Queen”. That same year, the project received a grant by the Montevideo Socio Audiovisual film funding scheme in the category Fiction Feature in Development, as well as being granted ICAU’s Film Promotion Fund for developing a fiction feature. It was also extended an invitation to take part in Ibermedia’s Course on Film Project Development.
