Finlay Pretsell is an award-winning filmmaker who explores the areas between documentary and fiction, driven by an raw authenticity of non-fiction cinema enabling a true intensity throughout his work. His debut feature TIME TRIAL premiered in main competition at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in 2017 and SXSW 2018, and has gone on to world-wide acclaim with many theatrical and broadcast territories sold. His breakthrough as a filmmaker was in 2007 with STANDING START, shortlisted for a Grierson Newcomer Award followed by MA BAR which won the BAFTA (Scotland) and screened at Sundance. Most recently he exec'd BEST BEFORE DEATH (2019) for BBC, BFI, IFB - a feature by Paul Duane with KLF legend Bill Drummond,and two TV half hours, ALL ABOARD and ADVENTURES IN DEMENTIA for STV. Amongst many short films he worked with long standing collaborator Martin Radich on NORFOLK (2015) a feature starring Denis Menochet (Inglorious Basterds) & Barry Keoghan (Killing of a Sacred Deer) for BBC Films, BFI, Creative England (iFeatures).
